1. Do Kratom “colors” actually mean anything?

Short answer: not reliably.

Kratom leaves are naturally green. Vein colors (red, green, white, yellow) are not separate species or strains — they’re simply visual variations caused by: leaf age, season, sunlight, exposure, humidity, oxidation and fermentation.

Farmers do not sort leaves by vein color. All leaves are harvested together and dried. The drying process — not the tree — is what creates the “color.”

2. What actually creates Red, Green, White, Yellow, or Gold Kratom?

The drying and fermentation process creates the three primary color variations (all technically shades of green). These color distinctions have no formal industry standard, which is why they often vary from vendor to vendor.

• Green – Usually a darker green powder. Dried indoors with minimal UV exposure.
• Red – Has a brownish or reddish tint. Sun‑dried or UV‑exposed, causing oxidation.
• White – A lighter or brighter green powder. Typically a blend of green material and lightly oxidized leaf (a small amount of red).
• Yellow/Gold, etc. – Vendor‑specific blends, extended drying, light fermentation, or simply marketing terminology.

3. Do different colors produce different effects?

Sometimes — but not consistently. Many people feel differences between colors, but the real reason is:

• Alkaloid profile (especially mitragynine & 7‑hydroxymitragynine)
• Batch variation
• Drying method
• Personal expectation/placebo effect

Color does not reliably predict effects. Alkaloid content does.

4. Are “strains” like Bali, Borneo, Indo, Hulu, etc. real?

No. These names were created by vendors in the early 2000s for marketing.

There are no genetically distinct kratom strains like cannabis strains. All kratom sold in the U.S. comes from the same regions and the same species: Mitragyna speciosa.

5. If colors and strains aren’t real, why does Purest Kratom sell separate colors?

Because experienced buyers expect them, and we want customers to feel comfortable choosing what they’re used to.

But we stay transparent:

• Colors are processing styles, not different plants.
• Effects vary because of alkaloid profiles, not color names.
• We only sell high‑quality Maeng Da with a minimum 1.3% mitragynine, which is considered high for natural, unaltered leaf.
• Every batch is lab‑tested, and every package shows the actual alkaloid content, not marketing fluff.

We offer colors because customers prefer them — not because they represent real strains.

6. What does “Maeng Da” mean?

Originally, “Maeng Da” meant “premium” or “strong.” Today, it simply means high‑quality kratom with a strong alkaloid profile.

No additives. No enhancement. Just naturally strong leaf.

7. Why do some batches feel different even if they’re the same color?

Because kratom is a natural plant, and each harvest is unique.

There are many factors that change alkaloid levels including rainfall, soil nutrients, season, drying time, fermentation, UV exposure and even the time of day the leaves are harvested!

This is why we focus on lab results, not color labels.

8. What should new users choose?

Here’s the truth: color and strain names don’t reliably predict anything, so there’s no “correct” choice for beginners. Most people start with Green Maeng Da simply because it’s the most familiar, the most balanced, and our best‑selling option.

A more meaningful way to compare products is by looking at the alkaloid content, especially mitragynine. Some customers prefer starting with batches that test on the lower end, while others choose based on aroma or past experience. Because alkaloid levels naturally vary from harvest to harvest, we’re currently updating our site to display the lab‑verified alkaloid content for every product — a big project, but one we’re committed to.

9. What’s the best way to compare colors?

Ignore the color names — look at the COA.

The COA tells you: Total alkaloids, Mitragynine %, 7‑hydroxymitragynine %, Microbial safety, Heavy metals, Purity.

Color is marketing. Lab results are truth. 

10. Is Purest Kratom enhanced or altered?

No. We only sell natural leaf, never adulterated or fortified.
